DIY Pom Pom Flowers

These adorable little pom pom flowers breaths a fun and quirky touch to any drab area in your home. Ideal for those spaces that don’t have enough natural light for plants and real flowers. This DIY tutorial goes over how to make a basic pom pom with pictures, a skill that you can carry over to making many more projects and gifts down the line.

Now let’s make some pom pom flowers – DIY style!

DIY Pom Pom FlowersWhat you need:

  • Yarn
  • Green felt
  • 16 – 18 gauge wire, cut into 14″ lengths
  • Green florist tape
  • Scissors
  • Glue

Step 1: Wrap felt around the palm of your hand 100 times tightly. Yes, you probably will lose all feelings to your fingers doing this!

Step 2: Carefully remove yarn from your hand, making sure to keep the bundle together.  With a separate short length of yarn tie a tight knot around the centre of the bundle.

Step 3: Snip through the end of the loops and fluff out the strands.

Step 4: Tidy up ends by trimming it with scissors.

Step 5: Cover the raw wire with the green florist tape by winding diagonally and making sure to overlap the tape slightly.

Step 6: Cut some leaf shapes from your green felt leaving a tab at the base so you can secure to your stem. Fold and iron leaf for a natural curve. Use florist tape to adhere.

Step 7: Add a touch of glue to the end of the wire before inserting it into the centre of the pom pom.
